The Co-founders of Biggby Coffee, Mary Roszel, and Bob Fish, met while attending hospitality classes at Michigan State University.
They first started working together as managers for Flap Jack restaurant.
In June 1998, they decided to franchise the company and established Global Orange Development.
They opened a third location in August 1999 on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. Nine more locations were added to Michigan and Ohio over the next four years.
